The phrase “promote the general welfare” is stated in the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution. It could be interpreted as a basis for such legislation that promotes health, safety, morality, peace, and overall well-being of the people. With that in mind, isn't it ironic that the Democrats continually push for giving “welfare benefits” to illegal aliens, but never seem to push for looking out for the “general welfare” of the American citizen?
Most of us never want to intentionally deprive people of food, shelter, and clothing, if a person really needs it, because we, the U.S. citizen and our country, have a big heart. But, we can't take care of everyone who comes into our country illegally. The people who enter our country illegally are not forced to come here, they come here of their own volition. So if they encounter hardships along the way, and when they attempt to “invade” our country, they do so on their own. We have enough needy people who could use this aid we are now giving to these illegal aliens.
This “invasion” (a term designated by the liberal Democrats as being “politically incorrect”) of foreign people into our country (Central Americans, Mexicans, Asians, and even Africans etc.) is causing a financial burden on our cities and states, along with a corresponding safety burden, for as many as 25% of our prison population is made up of illegal immigrants. Our agencies are not set up to handle this influx of illegal aliens and is being over taxed and made the scapegoats for the inaction of our elected representatives in Congress. The Democrats claim that this is a “manufactured crisis” for the purpose of helping President Trump get re-elected. Is 100,000 illegals coming into our country in one month a “manufactured crisis”? No, according to Democrat Jeh Johnson, Obama's Homeland Security Chief. He realizes that this is an untenable situation that cannot be allowed to continue. Why don't the Democrats heed Jeh Johnson's conclusion? The answer could be summed up in one word, “politics”.
Most of the people coming here illegally are not “rocket scientists”, but are mainly people with minimal skills and a minimal education expecting our “welfare” system to take care of them. That's the incentive for most of the illegals in coming here. In addition, many of the illegals are bringing communicable diseases with them causing very difficult health problems for our citizens, and especially to the valiant Border Control agents who apprehend many of them at the border. Add to those problems, many of our schools, hospitals, and housing conditions are finding it also a burden. Why, you may ask, do we let this happen without stopping it? As I said before, it all comes down to politics, and the Democrats hatred of President Trump, and not wanting to give him a win before the 2020 election. Shouldn't the “general welfare” of the country be the main concern of our elected representatives? Tell that to Nancy Pelosi.
I believe our founding fathers would be turning over in their graves if they knew how these Democrats are acting. One answer is, at the next election, “throw the rascals out”, the sooner the better.
