Adding to the confusion is the fact that the Left has been outrageously successful in falsely claiming that Fascism/Nazism are right-wing ideologies, thereby saddling the Right with the Left's crap.

The Left's Not-See Nazis

Q. What do you call a blind German? A. A Not-see. Anonymous old "joke." When being bashed on the head with a "Love Trumps Hate" placard it is hard to miss the irony involved.
The Kafkaesque image of Antifa cry-bullies beating up peaceful free speech advocates and calling them Nazis is a twisted ideological scenario that even George Orwell would have had trouble doing justice to. Liberals do not understand the rather simple truth that Fascism/Nazism were, are, and always will be LEFT-wing ideologies, because the "Not-sees" are incapable of seeing truth. But We the People are capable of seeing, and it is our duty to arm ourselves with the truth in order to mitigate the effect of the torrent of lies and propaganda that comprise the daily deluge of Fake News. "The Big Lie" is so pervasive, and has been repeated ad nauseum for so many generations, that I imagine it will take numerous repetitions of the truth in order for "The Big Lie" to be buried once and for all. So, "once more unto the breach, dear friends." The traditional political spectrum is simplicity itself--Big Governments (and more centralized governments) belong on the left side of the spectrum, smaller governments (and more diffuse governments) on the right. The smaller and diffuse the government the further to the right you move until you reach no government (anarchy) at all on the extreme right.

This simple schematic has been obfuscated, muddled, and distorted over the years, sometimes with good intentions, sometimes with bad. This "muddling" really goes all the way back to the French Revolution when the political designations Left and Right began. In a nutshell, during the early stages of the revolution the revolutionaries sat on the left side of the meeting hall being used, and the monarchists sat on the right. There, at the beginning, we have a problem. Revolutionaries on the left, and conservatives (monarchists) on the right, right? Wrong. Conservatives are in favor of smaller, more diffuse, government, while monarchists are in favor of a monarchy, which by its nature promotes a strong centralized government with its attendant bureaucracy. As such, monarchies belong firmly on the left side of the political spectrum. What occurred during the French Revolution was not Left vs. Right in any modern sense, but rather one form of Leftist ideology battling another form of Leftist ideology--the far left vs. the moderate left if you will. This is a scenario that would play out again more than once during the following centuries.

The Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), left vs. right? No, left vs. left. During WW II Hitler and Stalin battled -- left vs. right? No, left vs. left. Antifa vs. White Supremacists in Charlottesville, Virginia--left vs. right? No, left vs. left. One of the reasons, perhaps the main reason, the political spectrum appears so muddled is that many of what have been termed "left vs. right" confrontations were actually left vs. left confrontations -- internecine "warfare" (sometimes literally) between conflicting leftist factions. Adding to the confusion is the fact that the Left has been outrageously successful in falsely claiming that Fascism/Nazism are right-wing ideologies, thereby saddling the Right with the Left's crap. In addition, the far left has long called Fascists/Nazis "right-wing," and that ploy was picked up and copied by the left-wing in general, with the result that anyone they disagree with automatically earns the appellation "Nazi/right-wing" (which has more recently also been conflated with patriotism and "hate speech," i.e. common sense). The Liberal/Progressive "Not-sees" are by and large ignorant of all this, but We the People do see the light, knowing that ignorance is our enemy, and the truth will set us free. By the by, are you or any of your friends still watching the NFL? I thought not.
