Christians the world over this Christmas will be messaging Francis: “You pray your way. We’ll pray ours”

The Lord’s Prayer 2.0—the Francis Edition

The Lord’s Prayer 2.0—the Francis Edition In glorious Advent 2017, Pope Francis is not saying : “Merry Christmas!” instead he’s saying that the words should be changed in the almost 2000-year-old prayer, ‘Our Father’, the much venerated Lord’s Prayer. “Pope Francis has said the Roman Catholic Church should adopt a better translation of the phrase “lead us not into temptation” in the “Our Father”, the best known prayer in Christianity. “That is not a good translation,” the pope said in a television interview on Wednesday night.” (Reuters, Dec. 7, 2017)
“Liturgical translations are usually done by local Churches in coordination with the Vatican. The Pope wants to change ‘Lord’s Prayer’ as it implies God ‘induces temptation’.
Taught to them by Christ as how to pray, the Lord’s Prayer was good enough for the apostles and for a majority of the world’s 2.2 billion Christians who followed, but not for ‘Christ’s Vicar on Earth’ now boldly seeking to revise it? Is the current pontiff forgetting the full meaning of the words of another prayer, “Glory be to the Father, to the Son and the Holy spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be”? No other pope ever moved to change the words of the venerated Lord’s Prayer in almost two thousand years. Not only did it take Francis over four years into his papacy to suggest the change, he announced his intentions for the prayer during Advent—on the eve of the December 8 Feast of the Immaculate Conception. “…Pope Francis has argued the Italian – and indeed the English translation – go against the teachings of the church. In the much-recited prayer, followers of the faith call on God to “lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil”. (Express, Dec. 7, 2017)
“Speaking to Italian broadcasters, the Pope argued this was incorrect. “Francis said the Catholic Church in France had decided to use the phrase “do not let us fall into temptation” as an alternative and indicated that it or something similar should be applied worldwide. “The prayer, also called “The Lord’s Prayer”, is part of Christian liturgical culture and memorized from childhood by hundreds of millions of Catholics. It is a translation from the Latin vulgate, which was translated from ancient Greek, which was in turn translated from Aramaic, the language spoken by Jesus.”

It can be argued that more Catholics have fallen away from the faith in France than in almost any other country. As suggested above, the timing of the pontiff’s announcement of changing the Lord’s Prayer is all wrong. It comes as a surprise Christmas ‘gift’ wrapped in the most tainted of ribbons. Marxists—even Marxist popes—resort to a kind of radical change that suddenly pulls the rug out from under the feet of unsuspecting masses. Learned by countless millions in childhood, the Lord’s Prayer is impossible to change because it was taught to us by Jesus Christ through his Apostles. No pope, no cleric, no Marxist can revise the words of the Prince of Peace and the King of Angels. Christians the world over this Christmas will be messaging Francis: “You pray your way. We’ll pray ours”.
