The President of Hampshire College displays his own cowardice and lack of integrity

The President of Hampshire College Takes Down the Flag

Now I’m not a big American fan. As a college student, I ducked out of Vietnam. I didn’t like the idea of being blown up in a rice paddy. I was chicken., like Mohammed Ali who pretended his cowardice was principle.
Ali said, “Man, I ain’t got no quarrel with them Viet Cong.” But our country did and Ali and I turned away as our brothers died. It’s one thing to be a professional boxer and another to have your legs blown off. I was a professional boxer. It doesn’t make me brave. When I was in college in the late sixties I went to Europe and thought that Americans were stupid, ugly and crude. I was wrong, but I was young and stupid like liberal millennials. Hampshire College in Massachusetts has taken down its American Flag on campus a few days after after an anti-Trump protestor burned the campus flag. Then the college president pulled the American flag down. The college president said, ““If we could remove the conflict over the symbol and get to the real issues underneath, there would be a chance for real learning.” Real learning? You don’t learn by denigrating the flag. You don’t insult the flag when many men braver than Ali and me died for you.

You have to have respect. Even if you were a punk like myself who didn’t admire what other people sacrificed for me. Trump hasn’t even been in office yet and thugs are portraying him as a failed president. If they want to look at a failed president, they should look at Obama who gave us eight years of grief. The President of Hampshire College should not be imitating his disrespectful students and pulling down the flag. He does not insult the president by his action, but displays his own cowardice and lack of integrity.
