The Real Cost of Opposing Arizona’s Law

I received an email from C. Miller yesterday. It contained a list of figures that anyone who isn’t socialist-minded would find disturbing. The following facts illustrate in an extremely graphic way just how expensive it has been to leave our borders unsecured.

As the economy worsens, the continual influx of illegals into our country along with government policies that place illegals in a more deserving capacity than citizens will cause these figures to grow, not lessen. That, and nothing else is the real cost of opposing immigration reform such as was passed in Arizona. 1. $11 Billion to $22 billion is spent on welfare to illegal aliens each year by state governments. Here is a link to the facts. Check it out for yourself. Imagine what that money could be doing for legal citizens. 2. $2.2 Billion dollars a year is spent on food assistance programs such as food stamps, WIC, and free school lunches for illegal aliens. Here is the link. Some schools have been unable to buy textbooks because the funds were not there…they had gone to feed illegals. In addition to the 2.2 billion for food assistance, we taxpayers shell out $2.5 Billion dollars a year on Medicaid for illegal aliens. The facts are in the same article. You may also want to know that most urban emergency rooms and hospitals have to take illegal dialysis patients, filling the rooms so that legals either have to wait or go elsewhere at a cost of $12 million a month in Las Vegas alone. The site Fact Check pooh-poohs these figures, but I suspect they have a different agenda in this case other than the facts. 4. $12 Billion dollars a year is spent on primary and secondary school education for children here illegally and they cannot speak a word of English! That assertion comes from a Lou Dobbs transcript from CNN of all places. You would think the socialist-loving network would want to crib the facts a bit, so this figure may in fact be higher. 5. Dobbs also discusses the $17 Billion dollars a year being spent for education for the American-born children of illegal aliens, known as anchor babies. Now these figures are about 4 years old, so factor in inflation and you can just about double that. 6. He also describes the $3 Million Dollars a DAY taxpayers spend to incarcerate illegal aliens. It would be far cheaper to drop them off their home coast and see if they can swim to safety. 7. Dobbs goes on to detail that 30% percent of all Federal Prison inmates are illegal aliens. How can that be? Aren’t they all honest hard-working folk just searching for their share of the American dream? If that is the case, why did they sneak in? 8. He goes on to talk about the $90 Billion Dollars a year spent on illegal aliens for Welfare & social services by the American taxpayers. That is in addition to the largess spent by the states. And to top it off, Dobbs describes the $200 Billion dollars a year in suppressed American wages caused by illegal aliens taking American jobs because they will work for less than minimum wage and no benefits. 10. Illegal aliens in the United States have a crime rate that's two and a half times that of white non-illegal aliens. Because of where they choose to hide and how they raise their kids, that following generation has a proclivity to become involved in gang related activity far more readily than non-Hispanic immigrants. Here andhere. 11. During the year of 2005 there were 4 to 10 MILLION illegal aliens that crossed our Southern Border also, as many as 19,500 illegal aliens from Terrorist Countries. Millions of pounds of drugs, cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana, crossed into the US from the Southern border. The Mexican cartels have become so comfortable with the status quo that they get pretty violent when the border patrol actually does its job. (Link) 12. The National policy Institute, estimated that the total cost of mass deportation would be between $206 and $230 billion or an average cost of between $41 and $46 billion annually over a five year period.' 13. A May 28, 2004 study by Bendixen & Associates found that legal and illegal immigrants send a total of $30 billion to their home countries on an annual basis. Illegal immigration has actually become a foreign growth industry. No wonder Mexico’s President Fox called the potential building of an effective southern barrier between the US and Mexico “an act of war”. 14. This link takes you to the most comprehensive site with regard to the messy underbelly of this issue. The Democrats hate this site and for good reason. It shreds every one of their socialist ideals and exposes the corruption hiding below. Section 6 covers the pertinent points of this column. So, let’s add up the figures. Rounding off, I get about $345 billion dollars a year. That is what illegal immigration is costing us taxpayers, even before we add in the costs of drug use and other crimes. Since a good portion of these figures are from before the banking collapse, you can safely estimate that most have grown and it would not be unreasonable to assume a figure, adding in crime costs, of about $500 billion a year! Some, including myself, have proposed beginning a mass round up and expulsion of every illegal we can find, but after looking at this information in depth, I say wait a bit. Let’s build the Southern Wall first and make it an effective barrier against both climbing over and tunneling under. Make it effective enough that even the French complain, and then let’s start the expulsions. So what if Mexico won’t sell us anything for a while. With the money we will be saving, we’ll be much better off.
