Trudeau government: Respect for human rights of others only voluntary

The Canadian Press has obtained a copy of a draft citizenship guide the Liberals are working on. These guides are used by people studying to pass their citizenship test. The last time the guide was updated was in 2011 under the Harper government. While some of the changes to the guide were expected based upon Trudeau’s criticism of the Tories’ guide, others were totally unexpected. When former Immigration Minister Jason Kenney released the 2011 guide, the booklet stated “barbaric cultural practices” such as honour killings and female genital mutilation were criminal offences in Canada and not wanted. Trudeau had his knickers, no doubt halal knickers to match his socks, in a knot over the use of the term “barbaric.” The Little Potato obviously found little if anything wrong with immigrants who kill their family members as a matter of honour or who practise female genital mutilation. These acts apparently paled in comparison to Harper’s use of the word “barbaric.”

Another change the squeamish Liberals are making concerns the history of Canada. While the party was not always this way, the Liberals under Trudeau believe the military should only be used for peacekeeping. No war is or was ever worth fighting in. Gone from the guide are references, put in in 2011 about the role of soldiers who fought in the War of 1812. Harper’s guide also said it was the obligation of citizens to get a job. That was removed by Trudeau. Sure, come on in, become a citizen and live off the state. Justin’s here to take care of you. To those who have followed Trudeau’s reactions to the guide created by the Harper government, these changes were expected. Ignoring soldiers who fought for Canada during its many wars and not criticizing those who commit honour killings and FGM is the way Trudeau thinks. But a lot more changes were made. The Liberal guide divides the responsibilities of citizens into two categories: mandatory and voluntary. Mandatory obligations include respecting treaties made with aboriginals, jury duty, filling in a census form and of course, paying taxes. Those duties that are merely voluntary include understanding official bilingualism and voting. And one more. According to the Canadian Press, respecting the human rights of others is voluntary. This is obviously a sop to Trudeau’s favourite group, Muslims. It is not mandatory to respect the rights of Jews, Christians, gays and women and any other group these citizens don’t like. Of course failure to respect the human rights of Muslims will still be considered Islamophobic. Just wait.

He loves to talk about rights but this draft of the citizenship guide shows he does not even understand what the term “human rights” means. Human rights are, by definition, fundamental rights that every person is entitled to simply because they are human. Human rights are different than the right to park on a city street. These parking rights are something that can be granted by a government that can easily take it away. No one has the inherent right to park their vehicle on a specific street. But according to Trudeau, human rights are voluntary. Just like understanding official bilingualism and voting. There will be repercussions for these changes. Earlier this month, Michigan increased the criminal penalties for FGM after six people were charged with conducting FGM on two seven-year-old girls. Trudeau has already sent the message Muslims who do not want to stay in Donald Trump’s America are welcome to come to Canada. Legally or illegally. Now this message is refined to say if these people want to perform FMG or have it performed on their children, it’s no big deal in Canada. And by making the respect for the human rights of others only voluntary, Trudeau is sending out the message that imams preaching death to Jews and gays and treating women as second class citizens is okay in his Canada. And it seems it is.
