Had anyone told you post-Benghazi back in 2012 that Hillary Clinton wouldn’t be blocked from the 2016 presidency of the U.S.A., would you have believed them? Had anyone told you that prominent conservatives both in the cushy media and political world would rise up--with little to no opposition from the masses--against Hillary’s only opponent, would you have bought into it?
#NeverTrump is swinging like a wrecking ball through the 2016 election campaign, but sour grapes bitterness, jealousy and “I’m the only one who knows what’s going on” human nature being what it is, it would have been #Never-fill-in-the-blank for the surrogates of candidates left behind in the primaries. You can fill in the above-mentioned blank with #NeverMr.Smith of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington fame. #NeverMr.Smith (Donald J. Trump) is on his way to Washington along boobytrapped roads. Every day there’s another boobytrap waiting to blow him off route, with ravening media wolves waiting on the roadside for gotcha’ tales to rush out to the masses. Trump, as would any other candidate daring to take on the status quo, has to scale treacherous mountains on his way to the White house. There are the scandal-savvy Democrats hurling mud they hope will stick; social media in his opponent’s pocket, including the largest organization in the world running her digital campaign; all the lies never challenged, let alone corrected, and a president who will come out of the White House to campaign the entire month of October for the candidate in whom he sees his unearned 3rd term in office.

While one could still say it’s not over until the Fat Lady sings, Barbra Streisand is already out there singing, ‘Happy Days are Here Again’ in fevered anticipation of President Hillary Clinton. No one can reasonably deny that Donald Trump has a lot against him, Reince Priebus being the least of it. Julius Caesar had only one Brutus, Trump’s got a new Brutus coming out of the woodwork almost every day. The latest Brutus for #NeverMr.Smith Donald Trump stems from the considerable weight of former House Speaker Newt (Diamonds are not forever) Gingrich. “Former House speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.), one of Trump’s most loyal defenders, warned that his friend was in danger of throwing away the election and helping to make Clinton president. (Washington Post, August 3, 2016)
“The current race is which of these two is the more unacceptable, because right now, neither of them is acceptable,” he said. “Trump is helping her to win by proving he is more unacceptable than she is.” “Gingrich said Trump has only a matter of weeks to reverse course. “Anybody who is horrified by Hillary should hope that Trump will take a deep breath and learn some new skills,” he said. “He cannot win the presidency operating the way he is now. She can’t be bad enough to elect him if he’s determined to make this many mistakes.”
Gingrich’s switcheroo on Trump can be best explained by his having been bypassed by the limelight, something he can’t seem to cope without. “More unacceptable than she is”, Mr. Gingrich? What’s really going on in your head?

Then there’s the considerable hurdle thrown out by the White House, which is suggesting that Trump’s declaration that the election could be “rigged” reeks of a candidate poised for defeat, a bone tossed over the White House Fence which the #NeverTrumpers want to be first to dump on their readers and listeners. "I know this is the subject of debate at the end of the last presidential election when some supporters of Gov. [Mitt] Romney complained of skewed polling. So this is not a new claim. I would just note that it is often a claim made by people who don't end up winning elections," press secretary Josh Earnest told reporters at the daily briefing. "What I'll just say in general is that the cornerstone of our democracy is the ability of eligible voters, citizens to cast a ballot and to have it counted and the more people participate in that system, the more people that participate in that process, then the stronger our democracy." (Politico, Aug. 3, 2016)
"Earnest went on to note that President Barack Obama has made a similar case in front of bipartisan audiences. "You've seen the United States Department of Justice pursue cases in the court to ensure that the rights of eligible voters are protected when it comes to participating in elections and the president has actually worked in bipartisan fashion including signing up the lawyer for Gov. Romney's campaign to offer up advice about what we can do to make it easier for eligible voters to participate in the process," Earnest said. "And the reason for all of that is the president believes our democracy benefits when the American people are engaged in that debate and when as many eligible voters as possible cast ballots."
The White House is telling us that just like Islamic terrorism, dead people voting and those voting multiple times are a figment of Trump’s and others’ imaginations. Meanwhile, the clock is ticking toward November 8, and it’s the same clock that started ticking on November 4, 2008. The problem is when the clock stops ticking this time, there’s nowhere to go but down.
