U.S. Southern Command: extremists crossing U.S. Mexico border 'with ease.' 30,000 from terrorist regions last year

"You don't need to worry about immigration. The only people who illegally cross the border are hardworking folks who want better lives for their families. They certainly aren't terrorists, so stop being a racist and demanding that we seal our southern border. Why do you hate the 'brown people' so much? What's wrong with you?" That's the word from the "progressive" left, which will light the political correctness Batsignal the instant anyone suggests that maybe, just maybe, our lax enforcement of immigration law could represent a security threat.
Since none of the above statements are exaggerations - most of them could be found in our own comment section - one has to wonder how the left will reconcile them with a new report from U.S. Southern Command. In it, the Command’s J-2 intelligence directorate acknowledges that, yes, our border is an issue, it's dangerously porous, and extremists cross it with ease. As the Washington Free Beacon reports:
Sunni extremists are infiltrating the United States with the help of alien smugglers in South America and are crossing U.S. borders with ease, according to a U.S. South Command intelligence report. The Command’s J-2 intelligence directorate reported recently in internal channels that “special interest aliens” are working with a known alien smuggling network in Latin America to reach the United States. The smuggling network was not identified. Army Col. Lisa A. Garcia, a Southcom spokeswoman, did not address the intelligence report directly but said Sunni terrorist infiltration is a security concern.

“Networks that specialize in smuggling individuals from regions of terrorist concern, mainly from the Afghanistan-Pakistan region, the Middle East, and East Africa, are indeed a concern for Southcom and other interagency security partners who support our country’s national security,” Garcia told the Washington Free Beacon. “There are major hubs that serve as entry points into the region for migrants from those areas of concern attempting to enter the U.S. along our border with Mexico,” she said. The infiltrators from terrorist states and unstable regions exploit vulnerabilities in commercial transportation systems and immigration enforcement agencies in some of the countries used for transit, Garcia said. Obviously, after they cross the border, they can move about the country largely unfettered and set up shop as they see fit. Their plans are unknown, and once they're in, they're tough to track. Fortunately, liberals have told us that there are very, very, few - if any - of these people in the United States. You can always trust liberals, right?

Wrong.
“In 2015, we saw a total of 331,000 migrants enter the southwestern border between the U.S. and Mexico, of that we estimate more than 30,000 of those were from countries of terrorist concern,” she said.
So, let's be generous and assume that only 5% of the people coming here from nations of "concern" bear ill-will towards the United States. That's a whopping 1,500 potential terrorists. 9/11 was perpetrated by only 19. ...And the left is still willing to turn a blind eye.
