UN facilities were being exploited by Palestinian terror groups

UN caught red handed

One would have thought it would be the cause of great embarrassment when the Israeli I.D.F. attacked a UN compound in Gaza at the very time that UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon, was in Jerusalem meeting Israel's Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert.

It was, but not for Israel. It was proven that Hamas had been firing at the I.D.F. from within the compound. This UNWRA compound was serving as a shelter for hundreds of Palestinians. It was also one of the main storage depots for humanitarian aid that had crossed the border from Israel. To add insult to injury, the Hamas attack on Israeli soldiers took place during the daily humanitarian aid ceasefire period. This is just the latest in a long list of abuses by Palestinian terrorists and UN personnel in the Gaza region. The incident was personally and professionally embarrassing for the UN Secretary-General. It proved a point, made repeatedly by Israel over the years, that UN facilities were being exploited by Palestinian terror groups, often with the knowledge of UN personnel. Moon left Israel with egg on his face. Opinion in Israel favors the IDF being allowed to defeat Hamas in a significant fashion, and not for our politicians to accept a ceasefire before the battle has been properly won. Israelis are fed up with the Hamas rocket fire and their arrogant statements that they are now willing to accept a ceasefire, but only for one year. Then they will decide if they want to extend it. They are also angry at the coverage given by the overseas press who have ignored Israeli suffering for decades but now express outrage when Israel hits back. A third factor of cynicism in Israel is the role of the United Nations who have perpetuated the refugee status of Palestinians. I have a friend who, like an awful lot of people here in Israel, is seriously upset with Hamas, the foreign press, and the United Nations. As he told me on Thursday, "this was a good day for Israel. In one day we did the treble. We took out one of cruelest, most vicious Hamas terror heads, we hit Al Jazeera, and we caught the UN helping Hamas while their chief was in Israel. Yep! A real good day."

Barry Shaw——

My opinion was formed from living in Israel, witnessing the horror of terror, reading the misinformation and downright lies perpetrated by the Western media, seen the incompetence of Israeli leaders to project the facts. My website comes from a particularly personal perspective. The articles may be controversial and provocative. For whatever strikes Israel today will surely visit you tomorrow.
