Obama has emboldened America’s enemies and made them much more likely to take action against the U.S. and the West

Victory for Syria, Iran and Russia, defeat for the United States and the West...thanks, Barack

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has won the war in Syria according to pronouncements just made by senior officials in Iran, Syria’s close ally and supporter. According to the Iranians the effort to topple al-Assad has failed and both he and his regime will remain in place...will remain in power.

In other words, Syria, Iran and Russia, Syria’s other close ally and supporter, won. In other words, the United States and the West lost. The result was a foregone conclusion from the very beginning. The only possible way that al-Assad could have been removed from power was through the use of the United States military. American boots on the ground and American bombs in the air. That was simply not going to happen and everyone knew it, which is of course why al-Assad felt that he had carte blanche to do whatever he wanted, including use chemical weapons. President Obama talked a good game but in refusing to use the American military to fight against al-Assad and his forces he guaranteed that al-Assad and his regime would win the war and stay in power. All of his rhetoric and tough talk was meaningless in the end because he refused to make a real commitment and use the American military to bring al-Assad and his regime down. For completely misguided reasons Obama wanted to remove al-Assad from power but he refused to do anything serious...anything substantial...about it, which is why al-Assad won the war, why he remains in power and why he is more powerful than ever. Obama shouldn’t have wanted to bring al-Assad and his regime down in the first place given what would have replaced him. Obama should have worked with al-Assad and supported him because it was clearly in the best interests of the United States to do so. So after three years, 150,000 deaths, millions of refugees and the use of chemical weapons what is America left with thanks to Obama...thanks to Obama backing the wrong horse to begin with...thanks to his dithering and not backing up his rhetoric with action...thanks to his being on the wrong side of history...thanks to his not making the national security of the United States his primary consideration...thanks to his misreading the “Arab Spring” and failing to recognize and understand its full implications...thanks to his placing ideology ahead of practicality and patriotism...thanks to him being weak and soft instead of strong and hard...thanks to him not placing America and Americans first. He’s turned Syria into an enemy that despises the U.S. instead of a friend the U.S. could influence and work with. He’s made Iran much more strong and powerful and influential in the Middle East and beyond. He’s allowed Russia to re-enter Middle Eastern affairs. He’s set off an arms race in the Middle East because America’s friends and allies, who are engaged in a religion-based power struggle and battle for supremacy with Iran, can no longer depend on America to support and defend and protect them He’s made Israel far more vulnerable and open to attack. He’s made a preemptive, unilateral Israeli strike on Iran’s nuclear weapons development facilities much more likely. He’s made the possibility of a full-fledged regional war much more likely, a war which could easily drag in outside forces and turn into a World War. He’s emboldened America’s enemies and made them much more likely to take action against the U.S. and the West. He’s completely destroyed America’s trust and credibility and the deterrent value of the American military in the Middle East and beyond. Islamists...Jihadists...of all nationalities will return from whence they came and use the lessons and skills they learned in Syria to sow destruction, bloodshed and death in their home countries, including the United States. And on and on. All to the detriment of the national security of the United States. All completely unnecessary. Farcical, inept, shortsighted, feckless, weak, lazy, two-faced, self-serving and most of all tragic...words that describe Obama’s performance to a T. Victory for Syria, Iran and Russia, defeat for the United States and the West...thanks Barack. Yours sincerely, Jerry Philipson Comox, British Columbia, Canada
