VIDEO: Rudy Giuliani's RNC speech on Trump, and on making America safe

One of the highlights here is when Rudy says he's breaking a promise to Trump to reveal how Trump helped New York police officers in need and insisted on doing so anonymously. I should say, that's one of the substantive highlights. I suppose the overall highlight is the rousing nature of the speech and the way it was received on the floor. I never understood why his own campaign in 2008 failed to take off. I'm sure there are many campaign consultant type answers to that question, but it certainly wasn't because Rudy can't connect with an audience. Watch:

By the way, by all accounts, the chaos of the afternoon was long gone by the time Rudy and others took to the stage for the evening speeches. In recent years the media have complained that both parties' conventions were little more than "tightly scripted" shows. That was certainly not the case on Monday afternoon, when the convention became exactly what political conventions used to be - a real battle over crucial decisions that needed to be made. That is not a bad thing. It's what should happen when people take seriously the weight of the decision before them. So the GOP had its floor battle, got past it, and gave way to speeches like this one from Giuliani. We'll have more RNC highlights over the course of the day, so keep checking back.
