VIDEO: Trump has had enough of CBS badgering, shuts down pointless interview

If you want to know why people hold the mainstream media in such low regard, here you go: You've got an opportunity to interview the president of the United States, in the Oval Office. You could ask him about health care, energy policy, North Korea, Iran, taxes, spending . . . anything you want. So what does John Dickerson decide to ask him about? See for yourself:

Pro tip: When the media asks you if you "stand by" something you've already said, this is an editorial comment disguised as a question

Pro tip: When the media asks you if you "stand by" something you've already said, this is an editorial comment disguised as a question. It means they don't like the statement and they want to put you on the spot about it. Trump has no interest in exploring whether he "stands by" his description of Obama as sick and bad. He said it, that's that. There's no point belaboring it. But belaboring this point is exactly what Dickerson wants to do. Again and again, he keeps coming back and asking the same question Trump has already made it quite clear he is not interested in talking about further. Dickerson has ample opportunity to change the line of questioning and move on to something else. But he refuses to do so, until Trump is finally exasperated and wants no more of a conversation that's going nowhere. I don't much care for the question in the first place, if only because there are so many better questions one could ask the president of the United States given the opportunity. But if you're going to ask it, and you get resistance, you have to make a decision. You could try to press a bit with a followup, but if the president still doesn't want to get into it, now you're just badgering him. Maybe Dickerson is convinced it was a perfectly legitimate line of questioning. Even so, you're getting nowhere with it, so what's the point of beating it to death if not to intentionally irritate the president in hope of getting some cool video of him storming off?

Why is CBS choosing to trumpet this as the interview highlight?

Why don't people respect the media? For many reasons, but one of them is absolutely crap like this. There are all kinds of things where we'd like to hear the president's thoughts, but we don't get to hear them because Dickerson would rather waste time incessantly pushing this nonsense. By the way, you'll recall that I've told you the media acts as Obama's lawyer. This is a perfect example of it. Everything Trump says that's critical of Obama gets thrown back in his face in the form of a thinly veiled accusation. Do you really stand by that statement? Don't tell us you don't have the resources to cover substantive issues if you get a chance to talk to the president and this is what you choose to talk about. By the way, there may well have been more to the interview. We don't yet know when it started or how much of it went on prior to this. But if there was more, and it dealt with substance, then why is CBS choosing to trumpet this as the interview highlight? Unless annoying Trump and getting him to storm off was the point all along.
