imageIn the event you missed it: just in time for this year’s Judeo-Christian holiday season and Mattel’s 50th anniversary is Barbie dressed in traditional Islamic garb. In other words, it’s a “Burqa Barbie” that was “unveiled” last Friday at the Salone dei Cinquecento in Florence, Italy, as reported in the UK’s Daily Mail here (MailOnline). The “Burqa Barbie” is one rendition of about 500 Barbie dolls that are part of an auction benefitting Save the Children Charity.

While there are some who believe that the “Burqa Barbie” represents a celebration of diversity, they either fail to realize (or deliberately mislead people from believing) that Islam teaches women are inferior to men based on the Qu’ran and the teachings of other authoritative texts. It is a well documented and undeniable fact is that Islam oppresses women more than any other “religion,” are considered “possessions,” and are permitted to be beaten by their husbands under Sharia law. Before falling victim to the fallacy that a burqa-clad Barbie is a positive step toward multiculturalism, consider these examples about the treatment of women, taken directly from the Qu’ran: Under Islam, women are inferior to men. “…And women shall have rights similar to the rights against them, according to what is equitable; but men have a degree over them…” Sura 2:228 Under Islam, a wife is a possession. “Fair in the eyes of men is the love of things they covet; woman and sons; heaped up hoards of gold and silver; horses…” Sura 3:14 Under Islam, women are unclean. Any man who touches his wife (or any woman) before prayer, he is considered “unclean” for prayer.
