Steele Must Be High: Wants RNC Private Jet

I few months back, I wrote a piece called The Last Black President as Barack Obama was/is not serving with the humility that would make most people want him back later. Michael Steele may be the last black Republican Party chairman for awhile and the reasons are out there for all to see.

According to two knowledgeable sources, Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele once raised the possibility of using party money to buy a private jet for his travel. “I know that … regular ongoing use of planes was something that was looked at,” says one person with direct knowledge. “I can’t speak to how serious those inquiries were.” Both sources say Steele considered purchasing a plane outright, or buying fractional ownership in one, through a company such as NetJets. This serves as yet another example of how out-of-touch Michael Steele is the grassroots and comes off as self-serving.
Steele’s spokesman, Doug Heye, did not deny that such discussions took place, responding that the RNC never had a “plan” to buy a plane. “I don’t know what somebody might have discussed or might not have discussed.” While Steele has not purchased a plane, he continues to charter them. According to federal disclosure records, the RNC spent $17,514 on private aircraft in the month of February alone (as well as $12,691 on limousines during the same period).
DONATIONS are to be cherished, appreciated, and not be considered a first class ticket to the high life. If I were RNC Chair, I’d fly coach with the people, and if it came up, support and defend our party. Private jets are cool if Chairman Steele can pay for them himself. Such grandiose use of party money, as well as his past dissing of party assets such as Rush Limbaugh while tea parties nationwide want him nowhere near events, shows once again that Michael Steele never should have been party chair in the first place. Let’s hope Republicans choose its second more wisely. h/t DR
