United Nations this week elected Iran to its Commission on the Status of Women

Joke Of The Day

What would you say if a nation well known for their legal mistreatment of women (including beatings, stoning, honor killings, etc.) is now on an international commission on the status of women?

You might think it was a joke. Then again, anything is possible nowadays. Without fanfare, the United Nations this week elected Iran to its Commission on the Status of Women, handing a four-year seat on the influential human rights body to a theocratic state in which stoning is enshrined in law and lashings are required for women judged “immodest.” Figures. The international body held unaccountable for its own child rape atrocities in nations they’re tasked with protecting has just granted a seat at the table to a nation that kills those who dare seek freedom. Good call.
