White House budget office denied a request from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to make public the worst-case discharge from the blown-out well

Honest, Open, Government? Not When It Comes to Gulf Oil Spill!

As the American people have learned over the past 23 months, the CHANGE that Barack Obama promised most emphatically does not include transparency.

In fact, the Obama regime is one of the most secretive, closed-door, anti-transparency administrations in U.S. history. Consider the latest revelations about how Obama handled scenarios concerning the Gulf oil spill this spring. As reported at Yahoo.com, in part:
“WASHINGTON – The White House blocked efforts by federal scientists to tell the public just how bad the Gulf oil spill could have been, according to a panel appointed by President Barack Obama to investigate the worst offshore oil spill in U.S. history. In documents released Wednesday, the national oil spill commission's staff reveals that in late April or early May the White House budget office denied a request from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to make public the worst-case discharge from the blown-out well. The Unified Command — the government team in charge of the spill response — also was discussing the possibility of making the numbers public, the report says, citing interviews with government officials.”
Why, one might wonder, would the White House deliberately block important news from the American people? The obvious answer: Politics! Disclosing the potential gravity of the oil spill would make Obama’s reckless dithering look even more dangerous, which would not be good for the polls of a president already battered by a disgusted electorate. How many other important revelations about the deficit, the Afghanistan war, illegal aliens, national security and similar issues is the White House covering up to protect a president whose presidency is wobbly at best?
