Juan Williams Fired by NPR for Heresy

"I mean, look, Bill, I'm not a bigot. You know the kind of books I've written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous." Juan Williams on "The O'Reilly Factor" 10/20/10

Juan Williams is not my idea of a sensible, sane American -- he's way too liberal to qualify for "sensible and sane." Nonetheless, I have always admired his forthrightness -- you know where he stands on an issue, and why. Last night his honesty got him fired. NPR (National Public Radio) fired Mr. Williams after his appearance on "The O'Reilly Factor" Wednesday evening. NPR purportedly told Williams that his views were "inconsistent with our editorial standards and practices, and undermined his credibility as a news analyst with NPR." Although the brouhaha would appear to stem from some comments Williams made concerning Muslims on airplanes, I believe that Williams's "sin" was much simpler, and graver -- he questioned the liberal sacred cow of political correctness. At one point Williams stated last night that "Political correctness can lead to some sort of paralysis where you don't address reality." Gasp -- that's liberal heresy! Political correctness can lead to some sort of paralysis where you don't [can't] address reality? Really? You had better believe it. The ultimate aim of all this PC bulls--t, is to muzzle free speech, free thought, and free action, thereby transforming "we the people" into a much more pliant and malleable "material" for the Far Left's social engineers to work with. When he questioned the sacrosanct nature of one of the secular faith's sacred cows, Juan Williams touched the third rail of Progressivism, and got zapped. I never thought I'd say it, but "Mr. Williams, I salute your common-sense and sanity."
