Creation of a government controlled national news network

NPR:  Tip of the Soros Spear

NPR CEO Vivian Schiller’s firing of lone intellectually honest liberal, Juan Williams, was a faux pas of mammoth proportions in more ways than one. Schiller’s crusade for a government usurpation of the media was inadvertently exposed during the melee. Tara Servatius of Townhall.com explains that Schiller’s real passion is the creation of a government controlled national news network.

Schiller, a former New York Times executive, is one of a few dozen power players working with the Federal Communications Commission, the Federal Trade Commission and a leftist group called Free Press to ‘reinvent journalism.’ That’s how the FTC describes it. The FCC calls what they are doing the ‘Future of Journalism.’ Free Press, a think tank funded by leftist billionaire George Soros, among others, calls it ‘the new public media.’
Obama’s boss, George Soros just purchased 100 NPR reporters for $1.8 million to be tasked with targeting state governments. As the moribund mainstream media languishes, public news reporters are poised to take over. Schiller and her fellow travelers propose the imposition of new taxes on for-profit news agencies. Called “spectrum fees”, five percent of broadcast station revenues will be plundered and given to government controlled public broadcasting. Servatius estimates that should raise $1.8 billion per annum. Throw in a one percent tax on cell phones, TVs and laptops and you’re talking about real money.
Schiller calls her creation the Public Media Platform, and the left is very excited about it. It’s a digital network in partnership with all the nation’s public news providers, built to distribute their news locally, regionally and nationally. NPR has already built a state-of-the-art internal ‘wire’ service in the style of the Associated Press to carry and distribute the news. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting funded seven multi-million dollar regional journalism centers with news teams to produce and distribute the new public news product.

NPR’s Project Argo is where Soros’s $1.8 million is going as start up funds for NPR stations in major cities staffed with local reporters. The Soros money will be used by the locals to create public “news” product.
A May Free Press report describes NPR’s Public Media Platform as a first step in their plans for a government media takeover. The platform is in the early stages, and its purpose is to attract billions more in government funding. ‘We are going to strengthen and bolster our representation to Congress and to other entities that can help fund all of us,’ Schiller told the NPR board in her 2009 speech about a public media takeover of news reporting.
Though Fox News is certainly the biggest thorn in Soros’s side, he won’t be happy until the government controls all sources of news and information. Soros’s current pet, Barack Obama, is already on board. Addressing the graduates of Hampton University in Virginia, the President of the United States denounced the curse of free flowing information:
The ‘24/7 media environment,’ he told the students, ‘bombards us with all kinds of comments and exposes us to all kinds of arguments, some of which don’t always rank all that high on the truth meter.’
