I couldn't believe my eyes when I read the WeeklyStandard.com on January 11, 2011 and a column by Stephen F. Hayes titled "Sanders Fundraises Off Arizona Murders"

Even as I begin to write this accounting of seeing such an egregious and heartless proposal coming from a communistic Socialist from the Peoples Republic of Vermont, and their newest Senator, an avowed member of the Socialist Party of America, Bernie Sanders, I can't fully believe the crassness of such an uncaring individual. The smoke from Jerod Loughner's gun had not fully cleared the air in Phoenix, Arizona when heartless, lying, more violence-fomenting rhetoric was pouring out of the mouths of the ugly-minded, socio-communist liberal Democrats to see what political gain could be attained from a terribly sad and bitterly experienced set of six murders and many others wounded. But when a foolishly elected United States Senator joined in the calumny against totally uninvolved and completely innocent of any wrong-doing conservative people and organizations by turning this disaster into a FUND RAISING CAMPAIGN, I was totally dumbstruck. How sick can any person be to try to make a financial gain out of an incident where lives are lost and destroyed by a lunatic gunman whose political beliefs were principally identical to the party registering the false and unfounded complaints. As Hayes reported, Sanders sent out this fund-raising appeal on January 11, 2011: "Given the recent tragedy in Arizona, as well as the start of the new Congress, I wanted to take this opportunity to share a few words with political friends in Vermont and throughout the country. I also want to thank the very many supporters who have begun contributing online to my 2012 reelection campaign at bernie.org. There is no question but that the Republican Party, big money corporate interests and right-wing organizations will vigorously oppose me. Your financial support now and in the future is much appreciated." How's that for cold-blooded chutzpah? Why not include a raffle and sell some tickets, Bernie? That little extra glitz shouldn't bother a hard heart like yours. The liberal Democrats are still in shock from losing their control of the House of Representatives and are striking out blindly and callously with abominable lies and deceitful tactics trying to smear any Republican they can. But turning a tragedy into a fund raiser is the most despicable thing I could ever possibly think that a heartless person could do. Hang your head in shame, Bernie Sanders; you are not fit to be an American, let alone a Senator, which does not speak well for your fellow state citizens who elected you.
