A Disapproving Nation

Americans don’t seem to like anything about their country today. Disapproving nation is the best way to describe the current sentiment of the American electorate as we head into a very important election cycle.

The President

According to Real Clear Politics most recent averaged poll results, only 29% of Americans approve of the job George W. Bush is doing as President. 66.8% say they disapprove. At first blush, that sounds awful, until you see how the country feels about the Democrats who control congress and the press who props them up.

Congress

According to the most recent polls for congress, only 16% of Americans approve of the job the Democrat controlled congress is doing. 76% say they disapprove. That makes Bush look pretty popular in a sea of obviously unpopular politicians, as he is twice as popular as the Democrat congress, despite the news media’s efforts to drive his numbers in the toilet while propping up democrats.

The News Media

The World Tribune reports “Just 17% of voters nationwide believe that most reporters try to offer unbiased coverage of election campaigns. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that four times as many — 68% — believe most reporters try to help the candidate that they want to win.” No-duh….!   According to the survey, 54% say that Barack Obama is clearly the media darling of the 2008 presidential race, while only 27% say the media favors McCain, and 15% think the media is for Hillary Clinton.   43% of respondents said that Hillary Clinton received the worst treatment from the news media, as compared to 27% who felt McCain has been treated unfairly, and only 15% who think Obama has been mistreated by the press.   “Looking ahead to the fall campaign, 44% believe most reporters will try to help Obama while only 13% believe that most will try to help McCain.” (World Tribune) Bet their right…

In Context

Americans appear smarter than I thought… They realize Bush has made some serious blunders, that congress is only half as good as Bush and that the news media is in Barack Obama’s hip pocket, and otherwise useless.   They only trust President Bush 29% - the news media 17% and the Democrat congress 16%. I’d say most American’s have it about right.   As unpopular as President Bush is, the pro-left news media and their bedfellows over on the Democrat side of the aisle are far less popular.   In short, average Americans don’t like or trust any of these people and that’s the first sign of intelligence I have seen from average Americans in some years now.

The 2008 Contenders

The Real Clear Politics poll averages say that 47% of Americans like Barack Obama. I haven’t met any of them yet, but based on his Jim Jones affect on ignorant voters, it’s a real possibility.   Of course that means that 53% don’t like him, a majority, who appear beyond the grasp of his hypnotic charm and empty words.   42.7% like John McCain, only about half of them members of his own political party.   Both contenders appear more popular than Bush right now because they are currently in the promise making business while Bush is stuck in the promise keeping business. Once they start breaking the promises they’re running around the country making, their numbers will look more like Bush’s because Americans don’t like anything at present.

We the People

The fact is, as Americans, we don’t like each other much either…   • Blacks hate whites; just ask Obama and his church • Abortionists hate babies, but love free sex • Gay’s hate heterosexuals, but they like their money and benefits • Poor folks hate rich folks, and want rich folks to be more like them, poor • Atheists hate Christians and Jews, but can tolerate Islam • Socialists hate capitalists • Pacifists hate gun toting rednecks • Blue districts hate Red districts   I’m not sure it’s possible to be more divided than we are today and everyone is upset at somebody about something.

One Thing

Yet everyone wants to pretend like the country can be united again. It can, but only by the one thing that united America to begin with, some 232 years ago.   Personal Freedom and Individual Liberty.   When America puts these two ideas ahead of all others again, we will be united again. Until then, don’t look for anyone’s approval ratings to break the 50% mark…   And yes, I realize that most of what I just said is completely politically incorrect and socially unacceptable. But I hate spineless wimps who can’t stand the truth! So deal with it…
