Sacramento, Calif. - The pro-troop grassroots organization Move America Forward says that President Obama’s speech on Libya provided no tangible answers that the American people were waiting for. “We have been waiting for answers from the president, and tonight he talked a good game, as he usually does, but provided no clear answers to the American people.” said Danny Gonzalez, Director of Communications for the group.

“American interests should be at the heart of our foreign policy,” said Gonzalez, “but how is he ensuring that our interests are served when he’s been subservient to the United Nations and now turning military control over to NATO? We should be taking a direct and active role in ensuring that the outcome is favorable to our interests which means being able to assure the American people that the rebels are not more hostile to the United States than Gaddaffi. So we still don’t know if we are serving America’s interests or Europe’s? “ “President Obama has also said that he wants Libyans to determine their own destiny, not Gaddaffi, but says we could not have had a coalition with regime change as a goal. He seems satisfied to allow Gadaffi to stay in power, claiming that taking Gaddaffi out would create another Iraq. We are not satisfied by that answer. Allowing a dictator to continue brutalizing his people while enforcing only a low intensity no-fly zone and sanctions under the constraints placed by the international community is exactly what allowed Saddam Hussein to stay in power after the 1991 Gulf War. It set up the need for a war later on, which would be the worst result possible if we are dragged into a third war. Once again it shows that Obama doesn’t realize that appeasement does not prevent war, it only prolongs the suffering of the oppressed and sets the stage for more catastrophic conflicts later.” “President Obama still owes the American people some answers,” concluded Gonzalez. “Military families around the world are looking at this situation with much worry and uncertainty and the President failed to provide them any reason for new confidence.”
