CC’d to Canada Free Press: Re. Open Letter from CFIB And PECTA response

** May 11, 2011 ** Mr. James Ryan, President Ontario English Catholic Teachers' Association 65 St. Clair Avenue East, Suite 400 Toronto, Ontario M4T 2Y8 Dear Mr. Ryan, As a 25-year member of the CFIB, we have always had the option of cancelling our membership and withholding our dues, which is exactly what we would do if the CFIB decided to engage in mandatory partisan support as your union has done. You claim your members have “embraced your political action plan” as is their “fundamental democratic right”? What of the rights of your members who have contacted opposition offices claiming they do not wish to support the McGuinty Liberals because they are bankrupting our province? How can it be “their money” if your union is spending it on the Liberal campaign? This couldn’t be more transparent and is a disgraceful insult to the taxpayers. It is the same old Liberal story: they give you public sector unions everything you want and you help them get re-elected, regardless of the cost to future generations. The simple fact here is that you are funded by taxpayers and you have no right to use OUR money for partisan campaigns. Since you dispute this, my question to you & the MPP’s copied here is simply this: where do we as taxpayers sign to opt out of paying the tax portion that goes to your public union monopoly? We would prefer that our money goes to educating students rather than corrupt Liberal campaign coffers. We are in the context of a terrible recession; hydro rates are going up..."Dalton McGuinty, 1992 “If businesses can’t count on a secure and inexpensive supply of electricity, they won’t invest in Ontario.”Dalton McGuinty, 1992 148 days til the election!
