Happy Tax Freedom Day

Today is Tax Freedom Day, the day Canadians finally begin working for themselves.

In other words, if we had to pay all our taxes up front, we would have to pay each and every dollar we earned from January 1 to June 5 to various levels of government. Unfortunately, Tax Freedom Day 2011 falls two days later than in 2010. Read the complete report, Canadians Celebrate Tax Freedom Day on June 6, 2011. To highlight the wide array of taxes imposed on Canadians and to celebrate Tax Freedom Day, the Fraser Institute produced a new, humorous music video. The tune features a foot-stomping country beat while asking the question, "How much do you work to pay your taxes every year?" You can also determine your personal Tax Freedom Day using our online calculator. From all of us at the Fraser Institute, happy Tax Freedom Day!
