Bipartisan Support to Stop EPA's job-killing Boiler MACT Rule, Calls on Senator Reid to stop Obstructing Bipartisan Legislative Fix

Inhofe Comments on EPA Boiler MACT Announcement

Link to Press Release Washington, D.C. - Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, commented on the announcement today that EPA has re-proposed emissions standards for boilers and incinerators, known as Boiler Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT).

"After a string of delays, EPA has officially re-proposed Boiler MACT - a rule that when first proposed, would have forced the closure of numerous manufacturing plants across the country and destroyed up to 800,000 jobs," Senator Inhofe said. "While I appreciate that EPA has acknowledged Boiler MACT's devastating economic effects and revised the rule, today's proposed standards are still largely unachievable, putting thousands of jobs at risk and undermining America's competitive position in the world marketplace. A legislative fix is clearly needed. "Fortunately, there is a strong bipartisan majority in the House and Senate that supports stopping EPA's Boiler MACT rule: Bipartisan legislation has passed in the House with 41 Democrats supporting the bill, and 12 Democrats are cosponsors of a bill that has been introduced in the Senate. The only obstacle standing in the way of progress is Majority Leader Harry Reid, who has not let this bill come up for a vote in the Senate. Even President Obama, through his decision to withdraw the ozone standard, has conceded that EPA's agenda is doing great harm to our economy. Now it's time for Senator Reid to stop defending job-killing policies and allow an up or down vote on this bipartisan bill, which will provide meaningful relief to job creators."
