To a liberal, when it comes to the size of government and the spending of government, there is no such thing as “too much”

For the Love of Government

The soul group, the O’Jays, had a string of hits throughout the 1970s. Songs such as "Backstabbers" and "Love Train" were staples of Top 40 radio of the time and the O'Jays enjoyed phenomenal success for a number of years. They released their hit song “For the Love of Money” in 1973. The song is easily identifiable by the rhythmic chant, "Money, money, money, money – MONEY!" For 2012, the liberal group, the O’Bamas, have re-released the tune. The lyrics have changed and the title is now “For the Love of Government”.

The love of government is reminiscent of the Cold War. During most of the latter half of the 20th century, Americans lived in constant fear that the United States would be obliterated in a nuclear conflict with the Soviet Union. Fallout shelters were everywhere and schools practiced mock raids in which students would take cover under their desks. The Cold War accelerated as the world tended toward nuclear proliferation with the building of bigger bombs, better bombs, and more bombs. The world's supply of nuclear weapons increased dramatically as the prevailing attitude stipulated that we have one bomb of our own for every one possessed by the Soviets. Perhaps by design, perhaps by luck, or perhaps by the grace of God, neither country was vaporized and the Cold War was considered to have ended in 1990 with the fall of the Berlin Wall. The growth of government in the first part of the 21st century has closely paralleled the escalation of the Cold War. As with the hawks and their nuclear weapons stockpiles of fifty to sixty years ago, liberals – as if by definition – have espoused an ever-growing bureaucracy, be it federal, state, or local. Democrats (and a number of complicit Republicans) have seen to it that we have gotten more government and a more destructive government. The supporters of big government were elated in early-2010 with the passage of “Obamacare”, known officially – and euphemistically – as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The program is no more about the protection of patients and the affordability of care than “quantitative easing” has to do with the easing of anything (except, perhaps, the government’s ability to spend borrowed money). The passage of Obamacare represents a crowning achievement for liberals: the enslavement of the populace to an immense government bureaucracy. To a liberal, when it comes to the size of government and the spending of government, there is no such thing as “too much”. The liberal politicians’ mere existences are dependent upon increasing the number of citizens that are beholden to government. So, it is to their benefit to not only increase the numbers of these citizens but to increase the size of the machinations of government by which to ensnare and engulf the aforementioned citizens. Government is the liberal’s crack cocaine. The more government liberals get, the more government the liberals want and need. So it should come as no surprise that liberals are singing the O’Bamas song, “For the Love of Government”.
