The campaign to push Sarah Palin to drop out is in full swing

LA Progressive: Palin “Racist”

I'm surprised it took this long.

“So Sambo beat the #!”
This is how Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin described Barack Obama’s win over Hillary Clinton to political colleagues in a restaurant a few days after Obama locked up the Democratic Party presidential nomination. Besides insulting Obama with a Step-N’-Fetch-It, “darkie musical” swipe, people who know her say she refers regularly to Alaska’s Aboriginal people as “Arctic Arabs” – how efficient, lumping two apparently undesirable groups into one ugly description – as well as the more colourful “mukluks” along with the totally unimaginative “# Eskimo’s,” according to a number of Alaskans and Wasillians interviewed for this article.
Funny how the mainstream media dispatched dozens of journalists to find anything on Sarah Palin, but the only people making sensational accusations are liberal bloggers (and their record to date is poor). The author of this "piece" Charley James considers Media Matters a valued link on his blog, so you know where he's coming from and what his word is worth. But it's obvious how this is going down. Liberal blogs make charges, and the above-it-all media performs the public service of discussing the matter ad nauseum until they can create reasonable doubt and clear the way for their chosen candidate, Barack Obama. The campaign to push Sarah Palin to drop out is in full swing. Note: To keep up with the on-going Sarah Palin smear-debunks, go here. This latest rumor is #65.
No, Sarah Palin doesn’t have such control of Alaskans that people are afraid to say bad things about her. (What, are you nuts? Look at this list.) No, I don’t think it’s likely that she called Obama “Sambo”. (Good God, man, I’m ten years older than she and I barely remember “Little Black Sambo.”) Yes, it seems unlikely to me that she’s be real racist and marry a Yup’ik (or a part Yup’ik.) But yes, people are capable of amazing things. Yes, I’m sure there are people who don’t like her — I’ve talked with some myself. And no, I don’t think this waitress would have been thrilled to be called an “aboriginal”. And yes, if she called Hillary a “#”, I’m pretty confident is wasn’t the first time anyone in politics has said that.
Well put. UPDATE 9/7/08 - 1:55am EST - The Daily Kos has jumped on this "story" and comments are mixed. The Democratic Underground is taking this seriously. Check out some of these DU comments:
We absolutely must defeat them, using every tactic available. I'm all for character assassination if that's what it takes to win. It's the only way to teach the bastards a lesson. They have to be hurt and hurt badly. If our side can slime and destroy them personally and politically - as KKKarl Rove has done gleefully for his whole career - then we must do it. Whatever can be dug up is fair game until they cry "uncle" and put an end to it. My only hope is that this # comes back to bite them in the butt, big time. It probably won't Wesmoreland, but it could sure as hell be the anvil around Palin's racist neck. I can't even bear to call her Caribou Barbie. Too mean to Barbie. She has every nasty quality so admired by Republicans. I think it's an open secret that the Republican party is the party for and of racists. I would imagine that the people who are disgusted by this comment from Palin either would have never voted for Obama or any Democrat anyway, or will simply ignore it, because they're rich and want a government that caters to the wealthy. Talks fast, lies her # off, bad parenting skills, obsessed with appearance and still comes off sloppy, racist/rude, too head-# for normal conversation. Has to be the center of attention. Drug head mentality similar to Rimbuagh and Ann Coulter. COCAINE - COCAINE - COCAINE - COCAINE - COCAINE. I hope we get more info on this, but it wouldn't surprise me knowing her background As Lyndon Johnson once said, "It don't matter if it's true. I just want to hear the sonofabitch deny it!" Yeah, she really had a gleam in her eye with her "I guess being a community organizer is kinda like being a mayor…without the responsibilities!" This from a woman who has never been to south Chicago. She actually hasn't been to very many places in our country. I loathe her for that comment about Obama. This is a man who could have walked out of the Ivy League into a $250,000 job. But, he didn't. He went into the poorer neighborhoods and worked tirelessly. And that meant nothing to this shallow woman. It really needs to be verified, though, before it gets too much traction and makes our side look foolish i believe it though; it makes sense. If there isn't a name of a person (and first names only don't count) that isn't willing to be interviewed, don't touch this. This will backfire big time and as much as I want to see the cream puff gutted and skinned, racism is a very ugly thing to accuse someone of with no proof. This is so horrifying, I can scarcely believe it…. I can scarcely believe that she would utter those words. Is this LA Progressive Newspaper a reputable source do you think? It will be hugely damaging - even worse than "macaca" was for Georgie Allen. While many Americans are racist, a lot of them prefer not to think of themselves that way and would be horrified if somebody in that important a position referred to a black man as "sambo" and a potential political rival as "#" - people are supposed to have tact, after all.
And it goes on and on…
