The Democratic Senate hasn't passed a budget in four years, Republican House enables this irresponsibility by continuing spending resolutions

Exactly what the hell are we celebrating, Washington?

Ever the provocateur, Rob was on Twitter ripping on Obama's inaugural comments in real time, only to draw a rebuke from a member of the MSM who said that today he should "give it a rest" and "celebrate that we can do this peacefully."
That got me thinking: Do what peacefully? Throw a huge, expensive party (regardless of who paid for it) so that official Washington can celebrate itself? I've got to tell you, I am in no mood to celebrate, and it's really not that much about who won the election. I'm not feeling the joy and wonder over our democratically elected government because the actual work said government does is such a complete river of crap. Whoopee. We freely elect you cretins to go to Washington and "represent" us by running up the national credit card to the tune of $1 trillion every year, and by making more than $100 trillion worth of future entitlement obligations that you know perfectly well there is not enough money in the entire world to pay for.

The Democratic Senate hasn't passed a budget in four years. The Republican House enables this irresponsibility by continuing to approve the continuing spending resolutions that make it possible, even as they rail rhetorically against the very profligate spending that wouldn't have been possible without their cooperation. Our Constitution is one of the most brilliant documents ever written, but our elected officials ignore any part of it that inconveniences them, and a majority of the U.S. Supreme Court is perfectly willing to let them do it. I hate to tell you this, but our government sucks. And yet these jackoffs march and preen for the cameras in narcissistic celebration of themselves, and we're supposed to "give it a rest" and give them the love because at least they're not shooting us? Screw that. There is nothing going on in Washington that deserves a celebration. Americans should expect more of their government than the mere absence of violent despotism. They should expect sober and responsible leadership, not the non-stop nonsense we get out of Washington these days. Then again, we choose the leaders, so we're getting the load of crap we deserve. Oh joy, let us rejoice in our democracy! Bah. There's nothing here worth celebrating.
