Frustrated with the media for treating the issue as if it’s a choice between building the pipeline and doing something about global warming

Canada’s about had it with the media’s Keystone XL nonsense

Canada’s ambassador to the United States, Gary Doer, has about had it with the American news media over the way it’s approaching the Keystone XL pipeline issue. Typical of their approach to covering most controversies, the media are framing the issue and the controversy in a way that has little to do with the facts. And Canada, which is already our biggest foreign supplier of oil and is getting awfully impatient waiting for approval of the pipeline, is calling them out.

Mr. Doer ripped into the lamestreamers – OK, that’s my term, not his – for giving more credibility to protests that attract 20 people than to the 65 percent of Americans who are saying in polls that they want the pipeline built. Doesn’t Mr. Doer know that some of those 20 people are celebrities? That makes a big difference in the eyes of the news media! And Mr. Doer is particularly frustrated with the media for treating the issue as if it’s a choice between building the pipeline and doing something about global warming. Now I think the notion of man-made global warming is highly suspect nonsense, but the Canadian government doesn’t, and Doer points out that the same people who are urging the U.S. to build the pipeline are also working with the U.S. in all kinds of ways to combat so-called climate change. So for those of you who believe in global warming, the Keystone XL pipeline is not going to be sending more greenhouse gases into the air! Relax! Don’t take it from me, take it from the people who gave us socialized medicine north of the border. But whatever you do, find a source other than the American news media from which to get your understanding of any issue. They can be counted on frame things in a way that’s favorable to left-wing interest groups. They cannot be counted on to give you the facts, because that’s not how they do things. And that has gotten on the last nerve of our friends in Canada, who are trying their best to supply us with oil, despite the best efforts of environmentalists, their friends in the news media and the all-too-compliant president of the United States.
