Faith groups to seek God in repentance, humility and prayer as they cry out for mercy, direction and forgiveness as America is in crisis.
The Christian Defense Coalition announces an event called "The DC Awakening."
The leaders are following the example of President Lincoln when he called a "Day of National Humiliation, Fasting and Prayer" in the midst of the Civil War.
Part of President Lincoln's Proclamation said, "Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us! It behooves us, then to humble ourselves before the offended power, to confess our national sins, and to pray for clemency and forgiveness."
"The DC Awakening" will take place from Sunday, October, 5 through Saturday, October 11 with the exception of Thursday as another group will be at the Capitol.

Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, adds, "America is in a grave time of crisis, uncertainty and confusion. During such challenging and difficult times, it is critical that people of faith humble themselves before God and cry out for mercy and restoration.
"We are not gathering on the lawn of the Capitol as liberals or conservatives. Rather, we are coming as the people of God and in the words of President Lincoln, 'to confess our national sins, and to pray for clemency and forgiveness.'
"Events over the past several days have made it clear that politics cannot solve the serious problems we are facing. In Washington, D.C. political leaders are only interested in pointing fingers and blame shifting. Our only hope is to passionately seek a gracious God and implore Him to bring healing to our broken land."

Special note: The groups will also be gathering for prayer on Monday, October 6, for the opening session of the Supreme Court. There will be a news conference at 9:00 A.M. on Monday to discuss the importance of the Supreme Court with respect to the upcoming Presidential elections.
