Obama's Justice Department just can't leave Fox News alone. It's not just James Rosen they're after, the Dailymail is reporting that William La Jeunesse and his producer Mike Levine were also investigated by the DOJ. In fact, they were the subject of subpoenas, but never notified by the government.
La Jeunesse and Levine got on the wrong side of the Obama administration by investigating Eric Holder's asinine Fast and Furious Folly in which the US government sold guns to drug cartels. This lead, foreseeably enough, to the death of 300 Mexicans and one American Border Patrol agent.
Somehow, the DOJ is able to quote precisely from La Jeunesses' emails.
The government went after James Rosen as a criminal co-conspirator, a nonsensical charge as a journalist using a source to get information, ideally before his competitors got the same information. In Rosen's case, it was distinctly non startling revelations about the North Koreans playing with nukes.
For doing his job, Obama's DOJ hacked his emails, traced his phone calls and tracked his key card. Fox News is reporting that the government seized "call detail" records from Rosen's work and cell phones which would show the times of the calls, lengths of the calls and to whom the calls were placed.
The court documents obtained by Fox show the last four digits of the phone numbers to be redacted, but the area codes and prefixes are consistent with those used by FNC's Washington Bureau. The area codes and prefixes also match Rosen's personal cell phone.
Rosen was being "investigated" by the government for being an aider and abettor of Stephen Jin-Woo Kim, suspected leaker. No journalist ever gets charged with aiding and abetting. It's the journalist's job to protect his sources, going to jail if necessary. It's been known to happen.
The mere suggestion of the Espionage Act ought to give you the chills.
This is not exactly what our Founding Fathers had in mind when they drafted the very First Amendment to the Constitution. Third World tyrants control the press.
Granted, Obama is no Fox Fan, but it's not just Fox being targeted. Approximately 20 AP reporters also have had their phones monitored by the government.
It may be tough to find any compassion for the dead, non Fox media; but in the grand scheme of things, Obama's harassment of any member of the media should give you pause.
