Anthony Weiner, more sex texts

‘Carlos’ not in any danger in celeb-crazed world

Putting your private parts out on public display is a guarantee for overnight celebrity.
Scandalous as he is, Anthony D-for-dong-Weiner counts on the celebrity of being married to Huma Abedin, a longtime close aide to Hillary Clinton, in membership of the celebrity class that now rocks the world. Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, Barack Obama and asundry others in Extroverts-Are-Us Inc. are the darlings of today’s celebrity class. Celebrity status is so blindly admired by the masses in today’s pop culture that Obama is using celebs to make Obamacare a fait accompli. In a world in which a man who renamed himself before being parachuted into the Oval Office with no proof of identity is acceptable, why couldn’t Weiner operate on the Net under the pseudonym of Carlos Danger?

History will someday record that the Obamas cashed in on the celebrity craze that was peaking just as a lazy, do-nothing-but-boast, low-attendance street organizer turned senator got the nod from a Democratic National Convention ready to take their best shot at killing off America with a virtual unknown. History will also record that Obama could never do anything without the shilling celebs, who would be used to sell everything, including Obamacare, to a duped-by-culture unsuspecting public. Truth, facts and reality in the celeb world are made up as you go along. Ditto for alibis and narratives of self-styled celebrities. Dogging Anthony D. Weiner out on the New York mayoral trail is a new batch of explicit sexual online messages and an admission that his habit of sending out sexual images along with text messages to female fans continued for more than a year after he left Congress to seek treatment and change his scandalous behaviour. “It’s in our rearview mirror, but it’s not far,” he opined at yesterday’s hastily arranged news conference. While the all-forgiving gullible believed the Weiner-spun happy ending that he was immersed in rehab, turns out out that his sexual exploits over the Internet continued via Carlos Danger even after the birth of his child. Yesterday forgiving wife Huma Abedin was by his side, claiming that her decision to stand by her man was “not an easy choice”. “Anthony’s made some horrible mistakes, both before he resigned from Congress and after.” Like the so many others who declare their love in supermarket tabloid headlines, Abedin used the media conference to declare: “We discussed all of this before Anthony decided he would run for mayor, so really what I want to say is, I love him, I have forgiven him, I believe in him.” Unfortunately, she’s not the only one. As he spoke passionately about issues like housing, gay rights and health care in an appearance at a forum on H.I.V. and AIDS issues, straight after the news conference, Weiner distinguished himself from his rivals by rising from his chair and gesticulating forcefully, the audience responded warmly, with shouts of “Yes, that’s right!” and “You the man!” (New York Times July 23, 2014) In a celeb-crazed society where being a celebrity is everything, “You the man!” is civilization’s epitaph.
