Affordable Care Act, Obamacare

Give the Dems the rope with which to hang themselves

I applaud Senator Cruz for his courageous and principled stand on attempting to defund the So-called “Affordable Care Act,” or ObamaCare, the name by which most people know this monstrosity. I feel the same way about the House of Representatives for its conduct toward a similar end. But I think that Republicans, both in the Senate and the House, have clearly demonstrated their opposition to Obama’s train wreck and maybe it’s time to back off the efforts to stop the law and let it take effect.
In my view the ACA, which is neither affordable nor about “care,” is the Republican Party’s best chance to wrest control of the government out of the hands of the Democrats, as this law demonstrates the incredible incompetence that has to date been the hallmark of the Obama Administration. What better way to show voters how badly the Democrats have run the country than by allowing the train to wreck? We all know that most Americans will be paying more—a lot more for health insurance than they paid prior to ObamaCare. We also know that the President and his barking seals in the House and Senate out and out lied when they promised Americans that they could keep their existing plan and doctors. A lot of Americans are now finding out that this is not the case. What’s more, proof that ObamaCare is fatally flawed and delivering inferior care at a higher cost is now seen on an almost daily basis. The President, the Congress, and many government departments have all been exempted from the law in favor of better coverage under their existing plans. Additionally, the president has been passing out exemptions and exclusions to his friends running large corporations and financial supporters, even though it is clearly not within his legal power to do so.

But the most crucial and pressing indictment will come down after the law takes full effect and the jobless rate spikes sharply upward. Businesses have made no bones about the fact that they are not hiring permanent full-time staff at this time because ObamaCare makes this fiscally infeasible. At best they will hire part-time workers, some who will have to work more than one part-time job in order to care for their families and meet their financial obligations. These hardships will be multiplied by the fact that many families will be paying two or three times more for inferior healthcare coverage than they are paying now. The law taking effect October 1 of this year could make for the most perfect storm, as there will be no end of outraged Americans finding out that their government has screwed them yet once again, just as we head into the 2014 election season. And that’s where the Republicans can make huge gains by running on the promise that the first act of the 114th Congress will be to repeal the Obamawreck. Of course the lame-duck Obama will be making all kinds of noise about his veto power, but I think it’s entirely possible that the Republicans (in conjunction with the remaining sensible Democrats) can make the repeal veto-proof. Perhaps then sane, rational and non-ideologue legislators can have another look at how healthcare is delivered in the US. Certainly the last entity to be in charge of healthcare in America is the US government.
