Underestimates insurance costs by 50%

CBS News: Healthcare.gov adds ‘useless and misleading’ new feature

The first of the "fixes" has arrived. Rejoice!
Congratulations America, the Obama administration has promised that they will improve the Healthcare.gov website, and the first of the upgrades has arrived. It's a small clickable button marked "see plans now." Hit it, input your zip code, and it's supposed to display an array of plans with their corresponding prices, so you'll see just how much money the glorious new Obamacare scheme is saving you. Unfortunately, just like the rest of the site; it doesn't work. According to a report from CBS News, the new feature is "worthless,” and “misleads consumers” by dramatically underestimating costs. According to CBS News:

"The administration announced it would provide a new 'shop and browse feature on Sunday - but it is not giving consumers the real picture. In some cases, people could end up paying nearly double what they see on the website."
Their story goes on to say that the site groups everyone into just two categories: "50 and up," or "49 and under." If you're under fifty, the site assumes you're a healthy 27-year-old. On the other hand, if you're over 50, it bases its estimate on what a strapping fifty-year-old would pay. Clearly, in order to pad signup numbers, it was designed to give people in both age groups the brightest possible outcome. A shopper sees the cheaper rate and, if the site allows it, she registers. Only then does she find out that the actual cost of her insurance is much higher than - perhaps even double - the original estimate. It's reminiscent of a car dealership luring you into the office with the promise of low prices and inexpensive financing. Once you fill out "a little paperwork" they hit you with the hard sell and you realize the offers were just a scam. Sheister used-car-salesman tactics from the Obama administration? Why are we not surprised? If this is the quality of the "fixes" the President promised, it's going to be a long, long, recovery period.
