What better way to celebrate the winners of Golf’s British Open Championship at Muirfield than to produce portraits of them?
That’s what Aine Divine, the Scotland based artist has done. She has produced portraits of: Ernie Els, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Lee Trevino, Tom Watson and Nick Faldo. “Ernie Els bought my portrait of him,” reveals Aine, who lives in Midlothian. Her work is featured in the book Greywalls - A Hidden Gem published by Gullane Art Gallery.

“While I have always loved painting and drawing people, no matter what I’m painting it’s the light that interests me,” says Aine. “At the moment I am working on a series of still life oil paintings. I set these up in the kitchen because I love the cerulean blue colour of the wall and the constant natural light there through the day. I want the colours to be as vibrant as they are in real life and the painted marks to have clarity and a life of their own.” Aine hails from County Cork. On moving to Scotland Aine was chosen as one of the portrait artists to paint Dr Mo Mowlam on the BBC’s Star Portraits television programme. Mo chose Aine's painting as the one she wanted to keep. She graduated from the Crawford College of Art and Design in 1991 and in 1994 and 1995 did the teaching course there. A selection of her portraits were shortlisted for exhibition in the Irish National Portrait Awards three years in a row, and her oil portrait of J. Russell was an award winner in the third year.
