The tide is turning. A new CNN poll reveals that a majority of Americans thinks President Obama is untrustworthy and they doubt his management abilities. I’m a proud charter member of the club that thought this all along, as are many of you, but it’s nice to suddenly have so much company?
And what’s driving it?
Maybe it has something to do with all the broken promises and scandals. We all know about the like your health plan/keep your health plan lie, but there’s a lot more where that came from.
One of the things Obama promised along was that any contract over $25,000 would be put up for a bidding process. Did you know HealthCare.gov wasn’t put out to bid? And it’s now estimated to be upwards of $600 million.
Remember his promise that the average family would save $2,500 a year on health premiums? Oops! Remember the shovel-ready projects that were just waiting for all that stimulus money, and were going to bring unemployment down? Sorry!
I suspect that, while all of this is helping to open people’s eyes, one of the biggest factors may be the astounding way the president simply refuses to accept responsibility for the things that have gone wrong. It’s one thing to make a mistake. We all do that. It’s another thing to systematically make excuses, try to blur the facts and change the subject. That’s the sort of thing you do when you are fundamentally dishonest and irresponsible, and Americans are noticing this is Obama’s modus operandi.
So welcome to what is now the majority. Next time you decide who will get your vote, hopefully these things will matter to you before you pull the lever.
