In his inspirational column today, Father Paul Nicholson, Missionary Preacher of the New Evangelization, compares ever searching modern man to the Three Wise Men who followed the star to Bethlehem.
“They presented the little Christ Child with gold because He was a King, frankincense because He was God, and myrrh because He would die as a Sacrificial Saviour,” Father writes, noting today is Epiphany. “They learned all that from a star. “It is remarkable isn’t it, that these men, unlettered by revelation, could read the sacred book of Creation and interpret it to understand the meaning of life, and the work of redemption. Even though original sin has greatly diminished our capacity to know the truth, it has not destroyed it. Rather, if we sincerely seek, and are humble, we will find the truth, we will find find the truth because there is only ONE truth. “And these men, are much like modern men, searching. Their eyes were drawn to the loveliness of the heavens, the stars. Modern man is searching, perhaps not with the same antiquated technology, but he is searching...modern man is googling.

“Admittedly, to google is to do something very pedestrian, but it reveals the hunger in the heart of modern men to find the meaning behind things, to know things, to discover. This is why it is very significant and important for the faithful of the Church to use the new media, the new technologies for the sake of the new evangelization. “More and more, television and newsprint are being abandoned, and more and more people turn to the internet, and the social media for their information and their community.” To this ever hungry-in-the-heart seeker of the truth, Fr. Nicholson’s FaceBook page and blog prove that the truth, recognizable by virtue of standing separate from all the smut and evil on the internet, can be found by sincere searching by the humble. For even among all the discouraging things one can find in that steaming cauldron known as the World Wide Web, there is www.FatherPaulNicholson.com, a flame steadily flickering in the encroaching darkness. Not all inspiration comes dressed in fire and brimstone, sackcloth and ash. Today being the Feast of the Epiphany, or “Little Christmas”, Father posted a video of Judy Garland singing Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. Many, who awoke this morning to frigid temperatures, howling winds and forecasts of more feet of snow, could read Father’s brief musing: “Many are cold, but few are frozen”. Meanwhile, I will go everyday to FatherPaulNicholson.com ever searching for light and the truth. And someday I will find that his professed determination: “We have to put the star of Bethlehem in the night sky of the internet” has come true on Google.
