Justice Department puts Obama donor in charge of IRS scandal probe

Last year, when news broke that the IRS had been targeting Tea Party groups in what looked like an effort to help Barack Obama's reelection efforts, the President was outraged. He claimed that the incidents were "inexcusable" and promised a full investigation. His administration wouldn't rest until they'd discovered how something they so clearly condemn could have happened. After all, this was a scandal that struck at the very heart of the electoral process and, if there's one thing Obama loves above all else, it's Democracy.
So, of course, his administration secretly placed a large scale Obama donor in charge of the investigation. From the Washington Times:
House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell E. Issa, California Republican, and regulatory affairs subcommittee Chairman Jim Jordan, Ohio Republican, said they have discovered that the head of the investigation is Barbara Kay Bosserman, a trial lawyer in the Justice Department who donated more than $6,000 to Mr. Obama’s 2008 and 2012 campaigns, as well as several hundred dollars to the national Democratic Party.

In other words, the scandal in question involved IRS targeting of political organizations that ran directly counter to the financially-backed desires of Ms. Bosserman, and she's now the person who we're supposed to believe will detect any impropriety. Obviously, if you want to an honest, unbiased, investigation into an election year scandal, this is the way it's done. Did the administration seriously think that people wouldn't notice the conflict of interest here? Are they that out of touch, or do they just not care? Never mind. Don't answer that. We all know the answer. They think they're above the law, so they don't care a whit about appearances.
Eight months later, the investigation has not produced any public findings, and. Mr. Issa says the FBI and Justice Department have stonewalled his efforts to find out what’s going on.
Huh. Ya don't say. Yesterday, Issa sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder, demanding that he remove Bosserman from her position and provide an explanation of how she was given the job in the first place.
“We request you immediately remove Ms. Bosserman from the ongoing investigation. By selecting a significant donor to President Obama to lead an investigation into inappropriate targeting of conservative groups, the Department has created a startling conflict of interest. It is unbelievable that the Department would choose such an individual to examine the federal government’s systematic targeting and harassment of organizations oppose to the President’s policies. Please provide a comprehensive explanation of the decision to assign Ms. Bosserman to the DoJ/FBI investigation of the IRS’s targeting of conservative groups.”
We're sure Issa's smart enough to know he wasn't going to get it but, if he was hoping for swift action, he's going to be disappointed. According to the Justice Department, "It is contrary to department policy and a prohibited personnel practice under federal law to consider the political affiliation of career employees or other non-merit factors in making personnel decisions.” So, get bent, America. As far as the DOJ is concerned there's no problem here at all.
