Supreme Court strikes down limits on overall campaign donations - cue the left-wing hissy fit

If you've heard a strange rumbling sound today, don't worry. It's probably not an Earthquake. It's the thunderous roar of crazed left wingers who are losing their minds over today's Supreme Court ruling striking down aggregate limits on campaign donations.
As the Washington Times reports:
The Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that wealthy donors shouldn't be limited in how many candidates they can contribute to during an election, though the justices did leave in place the maximum donation that can be made to a single candidate. The ruling is certain to reignite a debate over the role of money in politics and it enraged Democrats, who argue that conservatives are dismantling the campaign finance system one ruling at a time.

But Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., in the controlling opinion in the 5-4 ruling, said that while the government has an interest in preventing corruption of federal officeholders, individuals have political rights that include being able to give to as many candidates as they want, in order to show support.
As Chief Justice Roberts wrote in his decision, "Money in politics may at times seem repugnant to some, but so too does much of what the First Amendment vigorously protects. If the First Amendment protects flag burning, funeral protests, and Nazi parades -- despite the profound offense such spectacles cause -- it surely protects political campaign speech despite popular opposition." Basically, the ruling states that "giving" and "buying" are two different things, unless proven otherwise. Shockingly, and despite Democrat carping, the 1st Amendment applies to rich people too. So, what's really changing?
Under the current limit, a donor can't give more than $123,200 to candidates, parties and political action committees. Of that, just $48,600 can go directly to candidates. That means if someone wanted to give the maximum donation, he could only contribute to nine candidates.
Under the new rules the individual limit will still be in place, but the aggregate limit is gone. This means that you can give the max to as many federal candidates as you like. Democrats are having a nation-wide hissy fit because "Koch Brothers." Never mind the fact that Harry Reid and his allies have their own set of wealthy brothers - the Steyers - who are planning to spend $100 million on pro-Democrat campaigns ahead of the midterms. We won't even get into all that Soros cash that's flying around, or the fact that of the 10 wealthiest House districts, only 2 vote (and donate) for Republicans. The Kochpocalypse is here! Run for your lives! Look on the bright side, Democrats. When you lose in November, you'll have a brand new, ready-made excuse. It's not your disastrous, unpopular, policies and your atrocious President that are causing your failure. It's evil Republican money. It won't be true, but you can put it on a t-shirt and sell it to the sheep. It'll be a new way to raise all that money you despise!
