It is impossible to comprehend how people can deny that they made certain statements when they are on record (audio and video) having made said statements. It is even harder to understand why they don't explain their change of position rather than to deny their own words.
What is the mind-set of someone who won't acknowledge and explain a statement that they made? And it is a national embarrassment that we are not having a discussion about this trend.
Most people change their thoughts about different issues as they mature, or have life experiences, or study the issue. An explanation of that process would be helpful. But, we have developed a culture where less damage is done by lying than by being honest. Everyone is to blame.
Honesty is a basic, foundational piece of any relationship, including our relationship with our government, local, state and federal. We deserve and must demand honesty. Anything less is unacceptable.
