"I know that I do not know."

Donald Rumsfeld writes the IRS: I have no idea if my tax returns are accurate

Sigh. There are many things I miss about the Bush Administration. And very high on the list is Donald Rumsfeld, who suffers fools not at all but employs a wonderful sense of humor in the process.

Yesterday he released a letter he wrote to the IRS on tax day to let the Lerner Brigades know that he has no idea whatsoever if the returns he's filing are accurate. Donald Rumsfeld writes the IRS: I have no idea if my tax returns are accurate Awesome, and very much in the spirit of the boss's piece yesterday about how any number of government agencies use the complexities of the law to intimidate citizens. The thinking of politicians and the bureaucracy is that they can browbeat ordinary citizens into submission by forcing them to scramble to somehow comply with a complex tapestry of laws no one can possibly understand. Rumsfeld wonderfully turns that on its ear by simply announcing: I have no idea if I'm giving you what you want. What are you going to do about it? Dang, I miss that guy. By the way, those of you who are knee-jerking right now, getting in yelping position because you've gone all in with the whole "non-interventionist" fad . . . you're going to do what you want, but you're a bunch of bores. Enjoy one of the truly colorful characters and sources of truth within the political class, and get over yourselves for once. Enjoy:
