Safety tip #1: Don't stand on the yellow line

VIDEO: Democrat senator almost hit by train during safety presser

Granted, it would be funnier if he freaked out and jumped out of his skin. You do have to give Blumenthal props for keeping his cool as the speeding train is flying by just inches from his shoulder. On the other hand . . . dude:

Maybe the good that could come out of this is an end to cheesy press conferences where politicians preen in some on-location setting for the purpose of creating a media moment that will never really make an impact on anything. Supposedly the press conference was to highly safety violations that have occurred on the Metro North line in Connecticut. I don't know the details, but I wonder how many safety issues would be avoided if people would follow basic safety procedures and avoid standing on that yellow line - unlike Senator Blumenthal. I also wonder this: Did Senator Blumenthal really know anything about this issue before his aides told him he might benefit politically from showing up at this thing and standing next to an easel? Has he ever actually taken the train? Because if you're looking for a poster boy for safety at the train station, it doesn't look like Blumenthal is your man. Then again, this wouldn't be the first time Richard Blumenthal pretended to be something he's not.
