Tanya Lock

New Zealand artist finalist in major wildlife art competition

A New Zealand artist is a finalist in this year’s prestigious David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the year.
Tanya Lock, who lives in the UK and has just moved from Bradford-on-Avon to Hilperton Road, Trowbridge, is looking forward to having her painting ‘Window Shopping’ hung in the Mall Gallery between June 2 and June 7. “I have also made it into the last round of paintings that will be for sale on the David Shepherd website,” says Tanya, winner of the ‘World Birds’ and 'Animals in their Environment' sections in last year’s BBC Wildlife Artist of the Year. “This is a big thing as the BBC Wildlife Artist of the Year is not going to be happening this year, so this is the main UK competition. They get thousands of entries each year so to get into the final is a hard thing.”

Nina Neve from David Shepherd says: “The competition was open worldwide to amateur and professional artists alike and the response has been phenomenal. It’s fantastic that so much talent has been channelled to help us save endangered wildlife. The panel of judges spent many hours sorting through the hundreds of entries and we are delighted that the standard has been extremely high.” Winners will be announced on the opening preview night of the exhibition at The Mall Galleries on Monday, June 2.
