Florida Democrat Congressman says 'we've proved communism works' and enjoys eating his own earwax

Democrat Representative Joe Garcia hails from Florida's 26th district. He's currently fighting for re-election in a tight race that virtually everyone has rated as "too close to call." That may change, however, since he spent the last week and a half giving his opponent a rather large pile of campaign-ad ammunition. The first is this clip where he's seen picking his ear, examining the results, and then ...eating his own earwax.
If you just threw up in your mouth, don't worry. That's the proper response. Unfortunately for Garcia, that delightful snack probably represents the high point of the last ten ten days. During a Google+ video chat, he offered his enthusiastic appraisal of communism. Yes, communism. Garcia was complaining about the supposed hypocrisy of Republicans who cry for small government while spending lots of money on border security. Never mind the fact that protecting our borders is one of the very few things that the federal government is constitutionally obligated to do. This is about making an ideological point. So here's what Garcia thinks:

“Let me give you an example of the kind of money we’ve poured in. So the most dangerous - sorry, the safest city in America is El Paso, Texas. It happens to be across the border from the most dangerous city in the Americas - which is Juarez. Right? And two of the safest cities in America, two of them are on the border with Mexico. And of course, the reason is we’ve proved that Communism works. If you give everybody a good government job, there’s no crime. But that isn’t what we should be doing on the border. The kind of money we’ve poured into it, and we’re having diminishing returns.”
Garcia claims that the comment was a sort of odd joke, needling Republicans for spending too much on a still porous border. Get it? Me neither. Most of us know of communism as a failed political system whose adherents killed around a hundred million people in the 20th century. It's hilarious. It's also, in no way whatsoever, what's happening on our Southern border. So Garcia's super-funny joke fell flat and the left is scambling to say that anyone who's pointing it out is an idiot. However, whether he meant it or not, this is campaign season and Garcia's in a close race. The clip practically writes it's own attack ad, and comes just days after "earwax-gate." This is probably not the kind of thing he wants to be saying, right? Wrong - it's exactly what he wants to be saying. The Miami Herald asked Garcia if he could have phrased his comments better to avoid their inclusion in opposition campaign spots but, instead of making a more salient point, he decided to double down.
"They would post the video anyway.... I'll continue to say it."
Please do!
