"I don’t think there’s roads. It’s as far rural as you can get." - Bloomberg

Bloomberg slams Colorado Springs over gun control, CO Springs returns fire...

Gun control advocate nutjob Michael Bloomberg is good at making headlines. Unfortunately for him, he's not particularly good at making friends or advancing his agenda. Take the recent flap over the recall of two state Senators in Colorado. Residents there had the audacity fight for their 2nd Amendment rights, so Bloomberg decided the time was right to belittle everyone who lives there.

According to a Rolling Stone interview with Bloomberg, they're a bunch of backwoods hillbillies who haven't even managed to pave their roads:
"The NRA went after two or three state senators in a part of Colorado where I don’t think there’s roads. It’s as far rural as you can get. And, yes, they lost recall elections."
The only problem is that the recalls took place in Colorado Springs - the state's 2nd largest city - and in Pueblo - its 7th largest city. Here's a picture of Colorado Springs so that, in case you've never been there, you'll know what kind of town we're discussing. Bloomberg slams Colorado Springs over gun control, CO Springs returns fire... Huh. That's weird. It looks pretty nice to me. I don't see a single person with a jug of moonshine on their shoulder. Frankly, speaking as someone who lived in Colorado for a few years, I can tell you that Colorado Springs is a pretty spectacular town, and yes, their roads are in fact paved. But hey, maybe that's a new thing. Maybe Colorado Springs residents have been stepping up their game in recent years. Perhaps it's all part of an effort to keep people from realizing they're just simple "mountain folk." I bet that, just a few years ago, Colorado Springs was exactly the kind of backwater burg that Bloomberg claims. Bloomberg slams Colorado Springs over gun control, CO Springs returns fire... Uh-oh, they even had paved roads in the 1950's!? You would think that would be impossible, seeing as the place is - to this day - "as far rural as you can get." It looks like, as is the case with his whole agenda, Bloomberg's comments were based on a dangerous mixture of ignorance, misdirection, and outright stupidity. He was probably hoping that no one would notice if he wrote off Money Magazine's "Best place to live in America" as some kind of Arkansas drainage ditch. Unfortunately, he must not have known that not only does CO Springs have paved roads, it also has newscasts - and their reporters are not amused.
