Those looking to silence us have good reason to be terrified.

Black conservatives in demand . . . I should know (and I do)

We talked on the radio show yesterday about what happened at the NAACP convention when two representatives of the conservative group Freedom Works set up a booth. The presence of two black conservatives at the NAACP is a welcome, if still woefully insufficient, development. But it obviously wasn't universally welcome, as evidenced by the video Dan shared of a woman named Adrian Jones going ballistic on Freedom Works representatives Deneen Borelli and the Rev. CL Bryant (both of whom I know and respect greatly) and demanding they be kicked out of the convention.
Granted, Adrian Jones is just one person, but as we can see from her comment about the "billionaire Koch brothers," she didn't come up with her ideas all by herself. It is standard thinking on the left these days that black conservatives need to be silenced. That's because the left's attempts to mislead this nation about its real condition under the leadership of Barack Obama cannot survive if people are informed. The NAACP is losing much of its relevance because it decided long ago to do little more than advocate for left-wing policies. One way I know this is that I am a lifetime member of the NAACP, and have been since the 1970s. But you know what? When I began to emerge as a high-profile black conservative, they mysteriously stopped sending me communication. Come on. I'm not that hard to find! But they don't want to find me. When you've embraced liberalism as your mission, people like Deneen Borelli, CL Bryant and me represent a threat.

By the way, seeing as how their objective is to keep us quiet, they have every reason to be in a full panic. Black conservatives are in more demand than ever as speakers, writers, lecturers, media figures, etc. Let me just share my own experience. My radio show is on more than 150 stations - twice as many as when we launched at the beginning of last year. I am a regular contributor on Fox News Channel. And my upcoming speaking schedule has me about as busy as I've ever been. The point here is not to tout my own continued relevance. The same is true every other high-profile black conservative you can think of. We're in demand because we offer a perspective that the nation desperately needs to hear, and that's especially true of mainstream black voters who have spent far too many years being misled by a political class that takes them for granted and wants them to see themselves as helpless victims with no hope apart from government assistance. Along with other black conservatives, I see black people as filled with potential for self-determination, and I work every day to teach as many of them as possible how to live empowered lives. The left is horrified at the thought that they might start believing what I say in large numbers, because if that happens, the left is finished. Which is why I keep doing it. If the NAACP really wants to see the advancement of black people, it ought to not only put me back on their mailing list, but start listening to me and other black conservatives as well. Together we could achieve a lot. As a mere adjunct of the Democrat Party - which is what it has become - the NAACP will continue to slink into irrelevance. That would be a shame because the NAACP is a historically important organization, but if you insist on living in the past, that's where you're going to end up.
