Left-wing anti-Israel, pro-union media completely ignored it

Toronto Transit Commission’s new slogan—‘Death to Israel’

Ok, so the headline is a tad misleading. But for anyone who has ever ridden the TTC’s buses, streetcars or subways, or drove behind five streetcars piled up at a stop, it is really no more misleading than their current slogan which is “the better way.”
Last Saturday, the annual al-Quds rally was held in Queen’s Park. Most of the media ignored what the event really was, describing it as a pro-Palestinian demonstration. No biggie. The annual event, held with the blessing of the Ontario government, is where “death to Jews” and “death to Israel” are common chant. A man, wearing the clothes worn by TTC janitors, appeared on camera, filmed by Sun News yelling and repeating ‘death to Israel.’ Although what he was wearing did not really look like a uniform, there was a TTC crest on his left sleeve. Brad Ross, a spokesman for the transit commission, later revealed he was a Toronto Transit Commission employee although the commission is not releasing his name. Ross said the matter is under investigation and pointed out the rule that says employees must conduct themselves in a manner that does not jeopardize the TTC while they are wearing the transit commission’s uniform. This was not the case of a person yelling something that was caught on someone’s cellphone camera. This guy was being interviewed by Sun News with a large microphone in front of them and presumably filmed by a media camera. He saw nothing wrong with what he was saying.

While this incident was reported by a couple of radio stations and of course Sun News, the left-wing anti-Israel, pro-union media completely ignored it. Besides this is not big news like Mayor Rob Ford’s Escalade sitting in a Muskoka impound lot while he was in rehab. Ford had lent his car to a woman who was arrested for impaired driving and reporters rushed to get pictures of the poor Escalade after it was impounded. Now that’s big news. The ‘death to Israel’ screamed followed the sacking of a probationary driver who was filmed not running a red light but driving straight through one, nearly striking a pedestrian who was crossing on a green light in front of the bus. Because she was on probation she was easily fired. Even then union boss Bob Kinnear whined that she should have been given a desk job. Of course Kinnear could always give her a job with Local 113 but it seems he never thought of that. As some commentators have pointed out while being a TTC janitor is not exactly a glamour job, the janitors have access to transit property where bombs and other incendiary devices can be placed. But it’s doubtful the transit commission even thought about that. Shortly after 9/11, then Chairman of the TTC, Councillor Howard Moscoe said Toronto’s transit system would never be subject to an attack because terrorists wouldn't be able to find it. Besides, Canadians are much too nice to ever be the targets of terrorist attacks. To be fair to the TTC, it will take some time, as it did with the driver who obviously didn't know that a red light means “stop,” to investigate and deal with the matter. But no one should hold their breath waiting for Mr. Apology, TTC CEO Andy Byford, to apologize. Byford apologizes so much for every minor fault in the system his words ring hollow. And, unless this guy is on probation like the bus driver was, look for the union to support him. He’s likely not going anywhere after all kinds of excuses for his behaviour will be made. The evil Sun News will be blamed. On the other hand, if this little piece of crap does lose his job he can always become a letter carrier. Members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers march proudly in demonstrations next to people carrying Hamas flags.
