A Scottish artist and golf fanatic is producing golf paintings for this year’s Ryder Cup.
Margaret Evans from Perthshire is in the process of producing a series of pastel originals of the PGA course at Gleneagles , which will be hosting the Ryder Cup in September. Her husband is an avid golfer and son Matthew Evans is a golf professional in Atlanta GA USA. He recently became Director of Golf at Rivermont Golf & Country Club in Alpharetta, near Atlanta, where he also plays in the Georgia PGA circuit. His amateur achievements incuded winning the Perthshire Strokeplay & Matchplay championships at the age of 18. “We are near Gleneagles,” says Margaret. “In fact our daily dog walking is around the courses there. We sell prints and cards of the golf paintings at the hotel. We have watched the PGA course grow from initially being designed (and opened) by Jack Nicklaus, growing in stature and fame, and now proud host to the Ryder Cup for this year. So I have watched this course from its infancy, and love the layout and design. My interest is nurtured from having a golfing family though I don't get time to play anymore, it is part of my 'growing old' intentions to get back to it. I love golf course structure, and in courses that I am particularly fond of, the way they are sculpted into the landscape. Gleneagles has a wonderful setting, and the original Kings Course and Queen's Course are both favourites and beautifully structured.”

She adds: “Some of my latest pastels can already be seen at EDS Gallery, Edinburgh and McGregor Fine Art in Glasgow. In fact one went off to a collector in New York just last week, so that was a good start.” www.thegolfartgallery.co.uk
