Latin America's failure to live up to its diplomatic and cultural potential as they consistently choose to stand on the wrong side of history

TORONTO — The pulling of envoys by five Latin American nations is being described as 'disgraceful' by B'nai Brith Canada. El Salvador is the latest country to pull its ambassador from Israel, joining Brazil, Peru, Chile and Ecuador.

"The act of pulling an envoy from a liberal democracy during its struggle against a recognized terror organization is not just reprehensible, but an affront to all Western countries," said Frank Dimant, CEO, B'nai Brith Canada. "The very same nations who chastise Israel for daring to defend its citizens from the onslaught of over 2000 Hamas rockets have been eerily silent regarding the ongoing crisis in Syria, the human rights abuses committed by ISIS in Iraq and the persecution of Christians in Africa and the Middle East. If these nations truly wish to see an end to this conflict, they should instead focus their energies on speaking out against Hamas's tyranny in the Gaza strip and its ongoing use of women and children as human shields — whether in hospitals, playgrounds or UN funded schools. "Sadly, the decisions of these governments are further illustrations of Latin America's failure to live up to its diplomatic and cultural potential as they consistently choose to stand on the wrong side of history when it comes to the battle between Islamic radicals and free peoples of the world."
