Ebola patients: They're American citizens, and we can handle this

The second of two Americans found to have contracted the Ebola virus is on a plane from Maine, on his way here to Atlanta. When he gets here, he will be treated at the Center for Disease Control at Emory University.

As you surely know, I don't have a lot of confidence in many folks in the U.S. government to handle any number of problems we face in this country. But I know the people at Emory University, and I have a lot of confidence in them, as I do in some of the leaders at the CDC. I believe that they know the right protocols to contain this problem, and that they will be able to execute them effectively. Even more importantly, we have to remember that these two individuals are American citizens. A lot of people were upset when it was decided to let them re-enter the country. But it was the right thing to do, because this is their country, and we don't do ourselves any favor when we go into a panic about a situation that we have every capability of controlling. As one CDC official said yesterday, we're not going to be able to hermetically seal this country. People with serious communicable diseases are going to enter and re-enter, so we have to have protocols at the ready to deal with these situations when they happen. And we do. By the way, it was good to hear that the first Ebola patient - Dr. Kent Brantley - appears to be improving. I understand it's not uncommon for Ebola patients to appear to be getting better before they start getting worse, so he's not out of the woods and he still needs our prayers, but good news is still better than bad so we receive it with gratitude. Have hope, friends, and be thankful that we do in fact live in a country that can handle situations like this. Our prayers are with both of these patients. © 2014 Best of Cain. All Rights Reserved.
