A prominent Kent artist has returned from Holland after representing the United Kingdom in a prestigious painting event.

Michael Richardson was invited by the Dutch Art Foundation to represent the UK at the Katwijk Plein Air Festival in Holland. “This is an exclusive international festival for only 12 artists featuring Russian, German, American, Dutch, Belgian, French and Italian artists as well as me,” says Michael, a member of the United Society of Artists, whose work currently features in the Creative Coverage Group Exhibition at Gallery on the Square, Dorchester. “Each year, the foundation invites a select number of Dutch and foreign professional artists to go and paint in Katwijk. The painters are all ‘plein air’ artists. This is the second year I have been invited.” The artists find their subjects on the beach, in the dunes or in one of the villages. The paintings are created in oil, pastel or other techniques. Until the end of September, they are exhibited in the DunaAtelier. Katwijk has a long tradition on international artists visiting, living and painting in the area. The foundation is affiliated with EuroArt, the European federation of artists’ colonies. www.michaelrichardsonfineart.com
